THE ART OF THE NEW?

Modern art THE ART OF THE NEW?

Do you have difficulty in connecting with modern art?

Hi, I'm doing a feature article, and I'm wondering if anyone has difficulty in connecting with modern art? If you do, why? What makes you think this, and how do you relate to modern art in general...?

Basically, comparing new and old art, what do you like better, why, and what shapes your opinion on this?

Thanks in advance...

The trouble with connecting to modern art for most people is the fact it is simply the art of our times.
The Impressionists, for example, were not understood nor appreciated in their time either.
It has something to do with social acceptance of seeing something very different than the expected.
Modern art makes you stretch a bit. Think out side of the box, so to speak.
Some of it is so personal that unless you have an explanation by the artist, it is impossible to grasp.
Some of it is ugly.
But who says art has to be beautiful to be art?
Modern art is really more psychological than art whose is only intent is on capturing a moment in time in a realistic fashion.
Part of that has to do with the fact that we have cameras to do that today.
Still there is certainly nothing quite like the artistic interpretation of an element of nature.
Artists today are still painting traditionally as well as experimentally.
It is very exciting really, once you get the hang of viewing it in a certain open minded way.
Good book on this is "The Art of the New".
